Anactoria was tempted to deny what Azhnai had just said, but it was hard to do with the brawl still fresh in her mind. Still, she didn't want to believe that the other woman's life could be that dangerous. Then again, she was an assassin. It made sense that there would be all kinds of people who didn't think too highly of her right now.
The imperial princess shook her head. "I believe I was promised an explanation first," she said, and was mostly able to keep her voice from trembling. Danger was exciting in the abstract, but when she had been surrounded by it, it had been another matter entirely. Just what would have happened to her had she not found Azhani when she did?
She twisted her hand in Azhani's, lacing their finger together.

Stubborn. Azhani didn't know whether to be exasperated or impressed. To someone like her, who was trained to notice any weakness in a person, Anactoria seemed completely helpless. On the other hand, the fact that she fought so hard to supress whatever fear and doubts she might have... Well, given the imperial princess's comfortable upbringing, it was more than enough to earn Azhani's respect.
She couldn't help but smile. She liked the contact with Anactoria, but what she enjoyed even more was when she enjoyed it. It mad a considerable difference when the person you wanted to be close to actually wanted to be close to you in return. Or better yet, closer.
"I told you I'm used to being cautious, so when a man is the only one moving about about after...a certain someone in disguise talks about their real identity, I tend to think it's more than just a coincidence. After I saw him start talking to his friends, I... Well, I wasn't going to let them get to you first before I did anything. So I made a distraction. Unfortunately, it didn't go exactly as planned, but we did get out." She smiled. "And mentally shaken as you may be, you are physically alright...aren't you?"

At the explanation, Anactoria's mouth fell open sightly. She then closed and held her head down. "Then this is my fault for being careless," she said slowly. "Perhaps it is time that I went home. Its only a matter of time before word spread the princess is it and about." She shook her head. "Careless," she admonished herslef.
She looked back up at Azhani. "I'm fine, thanks to you Azhani. I'll have to watch what I say next time we're out together. But for now.. can you escort me home? I'd feel much safer with you. Plus..." a slight smile finally crossed her face. "I'd like to show you how I keep slipping out unseen."

Azhani wanted to comfort Anactoria, but the fact was that she...didn't know how. It was her own fault that she'd been found out... Without a word, Azhani hugged the imperial princess. She didn't know what she could say, but it was hard to watch Anactoria feeling so distraught. She tried to remember the faces of the three men she'd seen in the tavern. She'd have to make sure word of Anactoria's little adventure never got out.
"I'd be happy to," she replied. Azhani let Annie go and smirked. "But are you sure you want to show a thief how to sneak in and out of your home?"

Though Azhani had released her from the unexpected but welcome hug, Anactoria remained close, opting to look up instead of backing up a step to reestablish eye contact. "Only if the thief is you," she replied. "Would you steal from me, Azhani? When you are more then welcome to one of the rooms in my home, and would be given anything within reason? Might take all the challenge out of it, methinks," she added with a little laugh.
The laugh faded but the smiled remained as Anactoria closed the slight distance, warping the taller woman into another hug. "Please take me home, Azhani."

Azhani paused at the hug. It was easy enough for her to give one, but she seemed at a loss for how to react to receiving one. She thought about how much she enjoyed the feeling of Annie's arms around her and thought, for the first time, about how quickly she'd become attached to her. She wouldn't call it love just yet, but she was certain that she didn't want to lose this feeling. Especially not to another woman.
Without a word, Azhani put one arm behind Anactoria's knees and swept her off her feet, picking her up bridal style. "I don't know, Annie," she whispered. "I'm awfully tempted to steal you right now." She smiled smiled, and after a moment of genuine consideration, she ultimately decided to begin carrying her towards the palace.
