THE CHARACTER SHEET
FROM HERE TO THERE
FULL NAME: Faraday Morowin Gelsey Laen Ael Iai
ALIAS / NICKNAMES: Her family and close friends called her Fara or Fay. Some people in Terre de Conte refer to her as The Ice Elf.
AGE: 23
BIRTHDATE: July 14
RACE: Northelf
SOCIAL STATUS: Caes Sedai of The New River Clan
New River is one of the seven clans the make up The Bysaili Alliance. These clans make their home in the northern territory known as The Polar Ice, a stretch of cliffs, valleys, and thin forests in the northern region of the world where it is constantly winter. In the Bysaili Alliance, Caes Sedai is a status reserved for woman of shamanistic descent and is akin to nobility in the Aliiance as a whole andacknowledged as royalty in three of the seven clans, including New River.
OCCUPATION: Healer
Back in her home she served as the New River clan's primary healer as well as a diviner and secondary advisor to the Clan Chief. Since coming to Terre de Conte, her primary occupation has been that of a healer and herbalist.
DOWN TO THE FINER POINTS
HEIGHT: 5 feet, 9 inches
WEIGHT: 82lbs
HAIR: Ash White
EYES: Pale Blue
GENERAL APPEARANCE: The northelves of the polar ice are a semi-nomadic species, presumable evolved from western elves to adapt to the fridgid everwinter climate of the Ice. Their anatomy resembles that of western elves, however examination reveals that they posess a skeletal system in which the bones are nearly hollow--much like some breeds of fae. Presumably this adaption came about in order to allow them to avoid sinking too deeply into built up snow. The southern most clans are a dark haired breed with a dominant gene for golden eyes and are hailed as highelves. The northwest are pale haired and commonly reveal eyes of shades in blue or green.
-- Orran Maelswak, Imperial Scholar of Non-Human Species
In the context of her species, there is nothing all that remarkable about her appearance. She is a prime example of the ordinary northwest northelf. Tall, light, fair, and pretty. The only deviation is that she is quite a bit thinner than most of her own. Almost gaunt. Her ears are long and pointed at the tip, forming a sharp triangle. Prior to coming to the empire her clothing was always fur and heavy velvets, suitable to the climate. The new temperatures has spurred her to a change of wardrobe. Usually light, loose fitting linens or cotton in lighter shades of blue or green. She goes barefoot more often than not and walks with a barely noticable limp.

PERSONALITY: Faraday is many things to the casual observer: succinct, blunt, curt to the point of ambiguous coldness, dry to the point of seeming humorlessness, and certainly not, by any stretch of the imagination, relaxed. Not to say that she is frigid or unkind, but it would be a mistake to say that she comes of as a welcoming figure or easy to befriend; her eyes are just a bit hard, her bearing in accordance with propriety, her words few and carefully chosen for the situation. Although Faraday should never be recommended for the coordinator of any sort of celebration ever, as guest she is impeccable. Her manners are beyond reproach and she can certainly have civilized conversation, though some of her words are short, clipped, and so incredibly to the point in order that she might recede into the crowd again. Her taciturn tendencies are born from a violent combination of culture shock, social maladjustment, and an honest desire not to cause trouble as much as she sometimes ends up doing -- not, it must be noted, for grief or vanity, and many find it either strange or callous that this is the case.
But of course, there are always people who get off on pushing the buttons of others and for all her usual coolness Faraday is most certainly not without temper. When Faraday wishes to be loud, she is more than deafening. Often running ragged on one end of insomnia or the other and augmented by her tendency to forget to eat, her mood is brittle beneath her iced facade and prone to shattering at the worst of times, which can result in the unfortunate recipient of her rage gaining battle scars in the form of palm shaped marks, bleeding eardrums, and nicks from the various things she might've thrown at the individual's head. Her rage is quite rare and, in her mind, neither careless nor flippant, but it frequently is over what most would consider small offences -- touching her journals is a no-no, insulting her people or those to whom she's given respect is enough to get a shrieking rejoinder, and if you dare disturb a patient whom she's healing or who is recovering from injuries? Well. It was nice knowing you, sir or madam; the afterlife, I hear, is plush and inviting.
But there is more to Faraday than sharp mood swings and cool periods of quiet, and as shocking as it might be to hear, most of the following news on the girl is good. She's clever, for one thing -- and by clever, it should be read that Faraday is quite intelligent for one who has taught herself much of the knowledge in her head not related to her being a Caes Sedai. Her wall of journals is substantial because they contain the observations, theories, and ideas that she's compiled over several years and Faraday's system of note-taking and organization makes a particularly valuable resource to any who might want to learn more about a particular subject within New River. (It must be noted that if one were to even remotely hint towards wanting to see her notes on anything, it is the one time in which Faraday would be so rude as to practically push something towards he doorway.) Her blunt tongue lies in the fact that Faraday values honesty in word and deed, even though she might have problems expressing such sentiment. She finds obfuscation of the truth to be unneeded and cruel towards those involved on either end, and thus attempts to avoid such tactics. And her determination! It is this, beyond all things, which probably forges Faraday, for she is a woman of will and steel. It is why she has not cried for her brother nor will give herself the time to expel such emotion; instead, she cannels such energy into what she thinks will honor his memory best, which is advancing and preserving her clan. Since she cannot bear to leave something started unfinished, most of her insomnia stems from this habit, and so one of her more admirable traits sadly feeds one of her worst.
That being said, there is, of course, the question of the nature of a friendship with such an individual to be discussed. Surprisingly, after getting through the tough outer cover (and rest assured, my darling masochists, she will make it a journey that is not soon forgotten), Faraday's companionship can be rewarding and even enjoyable -- well, if you're into that sort of thing. Conversations are an unsaid reward of Faraday's approval, and once she loosens up around a person, she has a surprisingly playful and almost childish sense of humor. There's a quiet loyalty to Faraday that her clan taught her, and so she considers those worthy enough to care about (and who care in turn) to be worthy enough to die for. In that readiness, there betrays Faraday's excellently hidden naïveté; she believes, even after the death of her brothers, the dwindling of her clan, and betrayal by their southern brethren, that there can be a goal to work for that's enough to salvage it and everything. But she's a clever girl, wise, and knows this is not a sentiment to be worn on sleeves; so, Faraday keeps on being cool and distant, if only so that she can survive despite the chances as a testament to a promise of love and all that romantic drivel she likes to claim is nonsense.

HOBBIES: Faraday enjoys note taking. As dull a hobby as that might seem to anyone else, recording her eperiences and ideas is a source of vast pleasure for her. She loves reading as well and has either a journal or book constantly on hand. She's very fond of riding and horses in general.
BELOW THE SURFACE
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Natural Skills Her sense of sight, scent, and hearing are much more sensitive than a humans. Northelf pupils are larger as well and for that reason she is able to see clearly in dim lighting. Her vision doesn't extend to having day-bright visibility in pitch blackness, but she can see in moonlight almost as well as she can in sunlight. Her light bone structure allows her to move very quickly and nimbly and also gives her an unusual flexibility.
Enviornmentally Developed Skills She has an excellent sense of balance as a result of growing up in an enviornment full of clifs and ledges. Faraday can balance and even walk along narrow platforms with ease. She can move without leaving tracks or prints in the ground. Excellent at climbing, landing, and riding.
Personal Skills She's well versed in most plant life, it's usages and components. She also is familiar with basic anatomy; primarily elven, but she's also studied human, fae, and some animals as well. All this was part of her training as a healer. She can play ceremonial drums and has a powerful voice for singing chants. Faraday also has a remarkable talent for huntng and catching small animals (particularly birds) bare handed.
WEAPONS: She has minor talent with a bow and arrow. She might not be able to hit the bullseye, but she could get one of the outer rings at least.
MAGICAL ABILITIES: She's a healer and has the ability to repair broken bones, staunch blood flow, slightly speed up natural healing, etc. Doing so is extremely physically and mentally taxing. The greater the injury or illness, the more difficult it is for her to mend it. For this reason she will usually utilize a combination of ordinary healing methods, herbs, and magic.
FAMILY: Bronaugh Sei Niam (father) Morrowind Ael Iai (mother) Browan Sei Niam (older brother. deceased.) Eitri Sei Niam (older brother)
BACKGROUND: The month of july was known as The Waters Season, for it was around that time when it was easiest to fine the places where the sheet of ice that capped the frozen rivers was thin enough to break through to the running water beneath. During that season the clans that had settled themselves on the frozen surfaces of lakes would move to solid grounds. It was during this month that Morowin Ael Iai, High Caes Sedai of the New River clan, gave birth to her daughter beneath a mid morning sky. She crowned the child Faraday, a common New River name.
Faraday's father had been a hunter named Bronagh. Upon Morrowind he'd sired two sons, Browan, his heir, and Eitri. He would not live to see the birth of his daughter. A hunt with a boar turned savage and he lost his life to the animal's tusks when Morrowind was eight months pregnant. The distress over her husband's death triggered an early pregnancy in Morrowind and so her daughter, born slightly early of her nine month gestation, came into the world during the Waters Season rather than during The Verdant Month, thirty days after.
Although her eldest brother was her father's heir, Faraday was her mother's. She would be trained to share her mother's position of Caes Sedai and perhaps take on the position of High Caes Sedai in the future. The Clan Chief, who held her mother in high regard and as a close friend, felt sorry for the father-less child and so treated Faraday as his own daughter. He was uncommonly lenient with her and indulgent in the extreme. Faraday, whose proper place was in the shrines and healer pavilions, often abandon her post to explore across the polar ice. She was a nosy and reckless child. Her spoiling by the Clan Chief had made her willful and she listened rarely to her mother's scolding about danger.
When she was ten years old, however, a war broke out between the New River clan and the southern Dawn Light clan. Faraday had spent the morning in attendance to her prayers and, bored beyond measure, had snuck out after the afternoon ceremony on her own. She'd only meant to be gone for a few minutes, wanting to capture one of the petrels who roosted in the pine trees to give to her cousin as a birthday gift. She'd corner the bird several miles from her clan camp when she was captured by four raiders from The Dawn Light clan. A venture was mounted to rescue her. In the end Faraday was brought safely back to her clan, but four New River warriors lost their lives for it to be so. One of those warriors was her eldest brother. From then on, Faraday was an obedient and dutiful daughter; her debt written with her brother's blood in the snow.
Her foolishness was never entirely forgotten. It remained in the continued hostilities between The Dawn Light and New River. A decade past and then still more years and there was no peace between the two. They made allies with the other northeastern clans, while The Dawn Light joined together with the largest of the southern clans, The White Mountain clan. Her studies in the arts of healing and divining progressed. Although her mother remained worried for her safety, Faraday often rode out with warrior parties to serve as healer. She was injured twice in such a capacity; once when an arrow pierced her hip and again when she was knocked off her horse.
Age 22, the skirmishes between the clans lessened as The Dawn Light and White Mountain clans seemed to retreat. A chilling peace settled over the Polar Ice and it seemed that stability had returned to the Alliance. Slowly her clan began returning to the norms that had been disrupted by war. One of these norms included the tradition of young girls marrying in their twentieth year. Faraday was two years past her deadline, but her mother considered late better than not at all. For her daughter Morrowind chose a warrior named Sendri, a nephew of the Clan Chief. The marriage would make her the clan chief's niece. Not to mention that Sendri was handsome, strong, and gentle. Faraday had spoken to him on several occasions, and while she held him in friendly affection she could not find the love or desire a wife should have for her husband. She had sworn to be a good and dutiful daughter however and so she kept her silence and wrestled with her feelings.
The marriage would not come to pass however. An emissary from one of their allied clans arrived to report to the Clan Chief that it had been discovered that The Dawn Light and White Mountain clans had begun seeking foreign aid. To do so, they'd begun slandering the northern clans as being cruel and barbarian. This news distressed the clan. If the southern clans brought in foreign warriors they would be severely out numbered. A solution was offered by her mother; the northwest clans would send ambassadors to live among foreign nations and prove that the southern clans slander were lies. When the call for volunteers came, Faraday stepped forward. Her mother objected, but Faraday argued that a healer would serve as better proof against barbarianism and cruelty than a warrior or hunter. Her argument was sound. And so Faraday, with twenty others from the northwest clans, left The Polar Ice. At the Clan Chief's assignment, Faraday was sent to Terre de Conte.
