When Laura wrapped her arms around her waist Virgilia smiled at her. She had always liked blue, and felt like she could stare at Laura’s aqua eyes forever. Raising her hand and cupping Laura’s face she started leaning forward. But as she was about to kiss the other woman’s lips her mind finally understood what she was doing, making her turn her head away quickly. She lifted and then moved the hand on Laura’s cheek down, making it lie on the other woman’s stomach.
Hoping that the other woman hadn’t really seen what Virgilia had almost done she closed her eyes again, holding onto the blonde beside her. Right now, she feared that Laura would push her away and tell her to use the desk instead. She could feel her hand trembling slightly out of fear now. The last thing she wanted was to be alone and not feel Laura’s protecting arms around her. She felt more selfish now than she’d ever felt. Not wanting to let go because she didn’t want to, did she even care about what Laura wanted? What if she was actually cold and freezing, having Virgilia this close and didn’t like what they were doing.
Opening her eyes again she looked up, trying to find Laura’s eyes again. She wanted to see Laura’s beautiful blue orbs, to see if they seemed happy with this or not.

In the absolute darkness, where her sight accounted for nothing, there was a certain joy that came from the strength of her other senses as Virgilia's hand made sound of smooth friction traveling up the sheet, her fingers planting slow and cool under her jaw. Laura released her command of her neck, letting Virgilia point her face up so they faced up each other. Though Laura could not see, she heard the nearly inaudible stutter in Virgilia's breath and felt a tremble in her hand. It set Laura's pulse to hammering, not only for wanting the contact she'd waited to know, but also for whatever intensity was happening to the other side behind the lips only a thought away.
And then Virgilia's touch faded, letting Laura's head rest once more underneath her chin. Laura waited, tracking Virgilia's hand until it settled between their centers. She felt the trembling coming from Virgilia's knuckles; for a moment, Laura was not sure what to think. She recalled the sensations of the last minute while the covers maintained a slight warmth. It would not have surprised her if Virgilia was not sure of herself since Laura had also come to question herself not seconds ago.
She reached and found Virgilia's hand. Her mind's plan brought out a bit of trembling in her hand, and she swore that soon she'd be unable to keep her breath even, but without questioning herself, she brought Virgilia's hand back up and held it against her cheek. Again, she thought. Try again...

As Virgilia felt Laura’s hand on her own, she couldn’t help but think that Laura seemed to be in much the same situation as her. The other woman’s hand was trembling a little just as her own. Then she felt Laura raising her hand again and by following her hand with her gaze she eventually found herself looking at the other woman’s face. Keeping her eyes on the hand for a moment she blinked a couple of times before turning to Laura’s eyes.
Seeing the confirmation in Laura’s eyes a smile slowly found it’s way to Virgilia’s lips. There were so many things she had to explain to the other woman when the morning came and Laura deserved to know the truth more than anyone. Still she seemed to trust Virgilia even now and that made the vampire unbelievably happy. Sliding a hand under the other woman and around her waist she pulled her a little closer, keeping her hand on Laura’s back, before leaning in. Closing her eyes Virgilia then gently pressed her lips at the blonde woman’s.

The first instant of the first kiss was somehow less than a sensation; it was the first instant of a death-defying dive wherein the senses quiet and the moment of the jump is as thoughtless as the rolling waves below. The only feeling for that sliver of time was a pinch of breath as if the universe itself went into shock in response but then the world re-awoke, and Laura's body felt like the spirit of the crashing waves. She lifted her hands. her left hand coming to rest at the back of Virgilia's neck, half supporting their contact, half caressing the skin; the right rose up behind her ear, fingers getting lost in silken tresses. Despite the rising tide within, Laura kept their contact as gentle as a breeze.

Virgilia kept her lips relaxed in the kiss slowly learnt to react to Laura’s lips’ movements, not wanting to rush the kiss. Still she couldn’t help but dive a little further into the kiss leading Laura’s lips onto her own as she gently rubbed the woman’s back and face.
Letting her own lips leave Laura for air she started noticing that she wanted to drink the blonde woman in front of hers blood just more and more. Leaning forward again and lowered her head a little and started leaving small kisses along Laura’s throat before reaching the side of her neck, sucking it softly. Her hand had also left Laura’s face to gently touch her shoulder.
Suddenly her eyes shot wide open and she gently pulled away a little. She didn’t know how it happened and why, but her lust for Laura’s blood was so high. But she hadn’t loosed her mind, she just simply wanted it so much. Pulling the other woman a little closer again she let out a sigh. Virgilia knew deep down that Laura shouldn’t be with her. It was dangerous. But the princess couldn’t help but being selfish at the moment, wanting so dearly to stay where she was.
Giving a quick peek on the poet’s lips she closed her eyes as if she was about to fall asleep. She was very tired after the long day and decided to stop what they had been doing before she ended up doing something she would regret.

Laura rested against Virgilia as she had before, though it took her more than a few minutes to find her want to sleep. She still felt every point at which they had been and were making contact. Had a gasp escaped her when she felt the shoulders of her gown start to fall under her touch? When the kisses fell down her neck? For the first couple of minutes after Virgilia stopped, Laura had fought off disappointment from the primal heat in her mind that wanted the gown to fall more from her shoulders, that wanted Virgilia's grasp around her back and waist to keep accidentally bringing up her skirt. At the end of these feelings, however, Laura readjusted her nightclothes and thanked the darkness for her modesty.
As lukewarm, rational thought again fumbled around her in mind, Laura managed a yawn. Before she could consider rest, however, she rose up from under Virgilia's jaw, and whispered into her ear, "Thank you for my first kiss. I think you did wonderful." Laura settled back downwards so she could be close, leaving a kiss on Virgilia's cheek on the way. When at last she felt snug against against her again, Laura let the tension out of her body go and somehow, her thoughts were quiet.

The next morning Virgilia found herself in Laura’s arms. The sun seemed to be up and she could finally get to write a letter to her… friend. She carefully moved out of the other woman’s embrace and stood up, immediately missing the other woman’s arms around her. After stretching a little she went over to Laura’s desk and found some paper and something to write with. Holding the pen down towards the paper she glanced at the blonde sleeping woman and smiled to herself.
‘Good morning dear I hope you’ve slept well. Now we’re standing at a point where I found it necessary to tell you just who I am.
My name is Princess Virgilia and I am the crown princess of Bernkastel. A country that is known mostly because of the huge grain industry we have. That’s why I’m in Terre de Conte. To hopefully get a better partnership with this country. I am actually currently living at the palace in the city of Venus that is oh so far away from here but I was on a trip to Alonia because of some business that had to be taken care of here. Then after many complications and some foolishness from my side mostly I ended up on my own. Yesterday I weren’t dressed in my normal clothes but something that didn’t make me stick out as a princess just as much but of course forgot about the cold weather and went out in thin clothes that did in fact gain a lot of attention.’ Virgilia smiled wryly as she wrote that, thinking it was very typical herself to forget things like that. ‘Of course you have all the rights not to believe me about this.’
For a moment she stopped writing reading through what she had written once before making some space down to the new line she started writing. ‘As you saw yesterday I’m not what you could call a normal person. I am a vampire that only needs blood to survive. I am of a special rare vampire kind that is born with a natural cold skin that is sometimes able to freeze smaller objects, we are also much stronger and have sharper senses than humans. Full-blooded vampires like me are not to forget gifted with a special power beside all this. In my case it’s plant and flower manipulation. All of this makes my kind very strong, but we need human blood to be such strong. This is the reason why I am weak, even weaker than most human ladies my size. I only drink animal blood.
When I was just a baby the king of Bernkastel found me outside the castle and took me in, raising me as his own daughter. But he and his wife soon found out that I was the most hated and feared creature in Bernkastel, and the queen wanted nothing but to leave me outside to the wolves. But the king, my father wanted to keep me no matter what and eventually reached an agreement with my mother. They would keep me, but never let me drink anything but animal blood that they knew could keep a vampire alive as well. Still I never got the energy I needed and grew up constantly ill. Since I live in Bernkastel I grew up to hate my own kind and has always done anything that can be done to stop myself from wanting blood but has never succeeded. I was told what I was when I was twelve and had up to that date always thought I was a human myself that was ill and only had to take my red medicine trice a day.
As what you could call a vegetarian vampire I need at least three cups animal blood a day. Usually I drink bear blood. But since this is absolutely minimum of what I need I can’t afford to not drink that amount blood, and if I don’t I’ll enter a state where I no longer control my body. This happened yesterday when you started bleeding that makes holding back even harder. My body will then gather all left of energy that it has and use it all at once, giving me my full vampire powers for only a short while. If I don’t get blood then I will die within short time.’Blushing slightly she continued writing. ‘What happened yesterday was just wonderful. You were my first kiss and I couldn’t have imagined that it would be this lovely. Two women being together is very new to me, and is to be honest looked at as quite disgusting in my country.’ Her eyes saddened a little as she wrote the last part. ‘But I think I’m truly falling for you Laura Veronica and I want to be your lover. That’s why I’m being so selfish and putting you in danger by being this close to me. The thought of not doing that and leaving like I should hurts more than I could ever imagine. Please forgive me. If you of course wants me to leave, then I will and won’t ever bother you again.’ Virgilia had to force herself to write the last part. What if Laura realized it was for the best and would indeed tell her to go. Then she would never go back on her word and leave the place… leave the first person she had ever felt like this about. Taking a deep breath she finished the letter with some simple words.
‘I love you’
‘Virgilia’
Putting the pen away she let the paper stay on the desk so that Laura could read it later. She started standing up again but managed to put weight on her hurt leg and quickly sat down again on the chair biting her lower lip to prevent herself from screaming. Turning a little on the chair she looked at the door. The vampire needed to go out to get some blood. Maybe there was a butcher not too far away that could give her some pig blood. She had been hoping that she didn't have to show side side of herself to Laura, at least not much of it, but couldn't really do anything but to wait for her friend to wake up as she really needed the blood.

Laura knew it the second she became conscious again, but she didn't open her eyes or move. First, she paid attention to what her shut eyes saw; though she could never describe the color as something other than black, the black she saw was somehow lighter, which meant that it was morning...but not early morning as was usually the case. Next--while still keeping her eyes closed--she let her sense of smell report. There was a hint of mold in the air, so faint that she never recognized it unless she was looking for it. One of the walls needed to be replaced, likely where snowmelt had soaked in. Another smell was in the air, and much stronger than the mold. Still keeping her breath as slow as possible, she realized that the smell was lavender, and that it was close. She noted that it was an usual scent given that lavender did not grow up in the north and was often imported into Alonia, if ever, as an expensive perfume. Lastly, Laura let her body's sensations come to the fore of her attention...
It was a routine she learned from a writer who had instructed her once. It was an exercise to make people more conscious at the start of their day and to get used to remembering details, a useful skill for an aspiring writer. Laura took up the routine, though at first it was hard to remember to do anything when she woke up, let alone do nothing. At first, she usually just fell asleep and had to try again several times. Now, it was a skill.
...She was almost lying on her face. Her right arm was pinned under her and her left was stretched out far enough to hang halfway to the floor. She had rolled, and recently, she thought, because a sore pain was reporting from her right hand. Being pinned like that, her arm would be numb shortly. Another irritation was that she only felt the old flat pillow against the top of her forehead though that was obviously because she hadn't tried to lay her head on the pillow in the first place.
Suddenly the low sound of wood sliding under weight and the shallow sound of pain kept from leaving the mouth pushed each other to enter Laura's ear first, bringing her attention to all that could be heard. First, of course, she listened to her home. She only heard a forcefully quieted series of breaths only a couple of arm-lengths away. A drop of water tapped the stone from the tap coming out of the wall just a hop away from the foot of the bed. Outside of the house, however, she heard Segod shout. She picked out "A Vampire!" and "My sons!" from his highest shouts amidst the slightest of murmuring coming from a dozen or more voices. Segod had a crowd in front of the tavern.
The last part of the routine was a long, slow breath. She felt it press against the walls in her lungs and against the haziness of her waking thoughts. And then, when she felt she could paint the world around her without having opened her eyes, Laura opened her eyes.
The color of Virgilia's clothes drew Laura's focus up from the dull tan of her bedding. She was looking towards the door with a pained, drained expression. Laura's eyes opened wide. Just outside the door, she realized, Segod was trying to rally people about what had happened. Still, unless Segod somehow walked inside of the house, they were safe; Laura kept the shutters on the front window closed and the curtain at the back of the house drawn shut, letting some sunlight but without giving her privacy away.
Laura tried to speak, but her voice caught. Clearing her throat, she tried again.
"Are you alright?"

Virgilia turned to Laura as she heard her voice. Nodding she quickly grabbed the paper she had been writing on and folded it. She then pushed it away, not really knowing what to do with it. Writing what was standing on the paper was a big mistake she realized as soon as she’d heard Segod outside. She looked at the folded paper for a moment, Laura could come to read it later but right now she needed to think about what was best for the other woman. With a sad expression on her face she started writing a new message to Laura.
‘I’m quite all-right Laura Veronica thank you for your concern. Did you sleep well?
You don’t happen to know a way I can leave without meeting the people outside? I know that I’m always asking too much of you, but I promise you this will be one of the two last favours. Thank you so much for taking care of me, even after what happened. Could you give the man that owns the tavern these gold pieces and tell him that I’m terribly sorry? Of course you don’t have to tell him that, just try to make sure that he gets it.
Again thank you so much. I’m glad I met you Laura Veronica.’ She reached for her handbag that was lying on the floor and found three gold pieces in it that she placed on the desk. After doing that she finally managed to stand up, handing the paper to Laura. All the time she made sure not to meet the other woman’s eyes.

Laura watched Virgilia seemingly shuffle papers about on the desk before writing on one of the spare sheets. While she wrote, Laura studied her face, not sure what to make of her expression or the bleak feeling that seemed to surround her. It was probably the scene outside of the front door. It made sense; Laura would not feel any pleasant were she in Virgilia's position. She decided against sneaking over and trying to cheer Virgilia up at the moment; she might give the impression that she wasn't treating matters seriously.
As Virgilia rose up from the chair, Laura immediately noticed that she was still hurt. If she had sprained the ankle while she wasn't herself last night, the force might've caused a severe sprain. She would try to convince Virgilia to let her get some things to help her, but first, Laura took the note, now sitting up in the bed and against the wall, the covers about her gown, searching for Virgilia's eyes. The way Virgilia would not look at her, Laura's heart sank. Was something wrong? She looked at the note.
...I promise you this will be one of the two last favours... ...Thank you so much. I'm glad I met you...
Laura looked up from the note and right at Virgilia even if she would not look back at her.
"Wait. I mean, of course I can do as you ask--" Laura's mind had a question about how a painter could let go of any gold pieces, but that wasn't important at the moment. "--and the back window here leads to a safe alley, but is this...is this goodbye?"

Turning away from the blonde woman she tried to force herself to nod. This was for the best after all, she had to think about Laura. After a moment she took a deep breath and turned back to face the woman she loved, finally meeting the author’s eyes with her own teary ones. Finally managing to slowly nod at the woman’s question she looked away and over to the desk, finding some more paper to write on.
‘I’m sorry but I can’t stay, it would be too dangerous for you. The people here already hates me, what if they found out I was hiding in your room? I’m a monster Laura don’t forget that.’
Biting her lower lip the vampire handed the new note to Laura before lifting up her handbag as if preparing herself to leave.

As Laura read the last words of the note, her blood started to burn. She opened her mouth but stopped herself short of speaking as she saw the polished dagger sitting in the far corner by the door. How could Laura argue to have Virgilia give humans a chance when she herself had accepted the weapon and had been ready to use it the night before? She felt ignorant; what did she know about being considered a monster? Still...
"I guess it wouldn't be fair to say that I don't care what others think." Laura dropped her head. Surprise and defeat scattered her thoughts; she could not think of a way to change Virgilia's mind. Then, at least, she wouldn't turn away. She looked back up.
"You can leave, but I won't think of you as a monster. Ever."

Virgilia smiled thankfully at the woman, but it still hurt to know that she had the permission to leave. Moving towards the bed she sat down beside the other woman, wondering if she could maybe, just maybe stay a little longer. She sat the handbag down beside her on the mattress and looked at the woman beside her.
Raising her hands she shaped a heart using both of them and then pointed towards the woman beside her. Her smile turned apologetic and she leaned forward towards Laura, kissing her cheek. Moving back again she turned to look forward. She knew she had to stand up, but still couldn’t get herself to do it. Looking over towards the door, she remembered the voices of the other people. If she stayed she’d continue making trouble for Laura she knew that, but even so she didn’t want to leave her. She sat still, as if waiting for Laura to tell her not to go, trying to tell herself that the blonde woman hadn’t told her to actually leave.
Finally finding the strength to stand up she grabbed her bag and limped towards the window Laura had mentioned earlier.

For the moment that Virgilia had been beside her, Laura looked as resolute as she could. There was no mistaking what Virgilia meant with her gesture. Her mind both doubted it and wanted to believe in it. What could she truly believe? Too much was going on in her head, in both of their heads. When Virgilia stood up, Laura felt it then, a feeling that she knew from a year ago, as if she would end up seeing the world and her life as if from a great distance if she did not act.
"Please wait." Laura took a conscious breath and rose from the bed, taking the quilt in her arms. She brought it around them, thus wrapping her arms around Virgilia. For a few seconds, she took in another breath.
"Vee," she began, speaking quietly behind Virgilia. "I'm not sure what we started just half a day ago, but I don't want to see you leave...I want to know you better...I would really like to know who..." Laura gently lowered and tightened her arms around Virgilia. "...held me like this." Laura did not speak for seconds, more than a little anxious about what she said.
"Say you'll stay and rest...I'll go out and have a talk with the people out there. I think I know what to say. After that, I can get something for your leg and what else you might need."

The brown haired girl stopped and dropped her bag as she heard Laura’s voice. Still she couldn’t turn to face her beloved. Virgilia’s eyes widened slightly as she felt the quilt and the other woman’s warm arms around herself. Such warm and soft arms that held her tight, making her feel safe. A smile graced her lips as she listened at what the blonde woman told her. She seemed nervous as she talked, Virgilia noticed, finding this very cute. Moving her hand the princess reached for the letter she had left on her friend’s desk, careful not to move away from Laura’s embrace. Getting a hold of the letter she turned to face the blue-eyed woman, wearing a warm smile on her face.
Nodding her head Virgilia raised her arms, now holding the letter with both of her hands. “I…vill…” she said softly, struggling to try and make sense out of the words that escaped her mouth. It was almost like she had also forgotten how to use her voice after her tongue had been cut off and she hadn’t used her voice much since then. Still holding onto the letter she pushed Laura backwards a little, trying to drag her down to sit on the mattress again.
Sitting down again she leant forward and grabbed a pen and some paper to write on. It was a little hard to write on the paper without something hard underneath so she pulled her fresh leg up and placed the paper on her hip. The princess had placed the long finished letter to Laura beside herself and glanced at the paper before turning to the blank page. ‘I’d love to stay with you more than anything else. But still, I don’t want to ruin what you have here in any way. If I’m becoming a bother, please tell me about it. In the letter I just showed you, I’ve written down some things about myself. And not to forget, who I really am. If you want to know, please read it.’ Putting the pen away again she showed the short message she’d just written to Laura, before picking up the folded letter about herself, handing it to Laura as soon as she saw the other woman had finished reading the first note.
