The patrons at the bar all seemed pleased with the outcome. After all, it meant free drinks for them. Hudson, readied the orders as Dusty turned back to her friend. Iphie was in distress. Dusty didn't any of her poker skills to tell that. What she couldn't figure, however, was what exactly the strange girl was currently saying.
They sounded enough like words, but they weren't spoken in Amy tongue that the detective had heard before. The Canyon certainly didn't produce it. She raised am eyebrow above a look of concern.
"Uh, can you run that by me, again?" she said, in a rather gentle tone, "'Fraid I ain't much a linguist. Hell, I barely speak right in m'own tongue."

Iphie was confused and she had to take a few breaths before she realized she had slipped into her old tongue. "I'm sorry, just, thank you." She said rather slowly, trying to make sure it all came out right. It was harder because she wanted something and she didn't know quite what. Though one thing she did know she wanted was another drink of the potion in the case. She should save them, she knew that somewhere in the back of her mind but their pull was great. With a lot of effort, she put the case on the table and released it. "Dusty, I need you to take this right now."

"Nah, don't worry 'bout it." Dusty said. Before she could continue, the case was put on the table and, with noticeable effort, was pushed in her direction. The detective eyed it with curiosity, before looking back at Iphie.
"Sure, I ought to be able to handle that." she said and picked up the case from the table. It seemed about as weighty as she had estimated. "You want me stash this here?"

"Somewhere...somewhere nearby. I still have to take it regularly." Iphie sighed and took a few breaths, she was starting to regain her composure and more. It wasn't a pleasant feeling and the added bonus where every fiber of her being seemed to be fighting the urge to get rid of the box entirely or drink everything in it immediately. She pressed her hands against her ears as if to hold in the massive headache that was forming. "You're curious what that stuff is, aren't you?"

Dusty kept the case in her lap and rested an arm on top of it. Iphie looked like she was coping with whatever urges were motivating her previous outbursts. And finally, at least a few answers appeared to be on their way.
"Curious? Yeah, you could say that." she nodded, "More'n that, I'm concerned. Especially 'bout these fellas that're givin' ya all this. Don't exactly strike me as a friendly sorta bunch."

"I suppose you could say that. He's one of the worst though. I think they sent him as a message." Iphie took a few deep breaths. The chills had died away but she still felt the occasional shiver. "I sort of work for them. I owe them my life so I do the things they can't do themselves." She rotated her shoulders in a shrugging gesture. "I can't tell you much but I suppose I owe you a little more explanation. The stuff in those vials. Well, are you sick? If you take one of those you won't be. That's all it is, medicine. I think if you were to take some of that you'd be the healthiest you've ever been in your entire life. Wouldn't harm you at all."

"Just medicine, eh?" Dusty was a bit skeptical, "If you say so. Still, it looked like it had some odd side effects on you. Though, I'd be guessin' it's got something to do with what makes ya so strong."
She was still a bit wary of the medicine...but, if she would take Iphie's word. The cult was another matter entirely. Regardless of whatever debt they held over her head, they were taking things a bit too far. And Dusty just didn't like it when it her friends got pushed around.
"I'll keep a good eye on it. So, if ya don't mind my askin'?" she looked back over to Iphie, "What're ya plannin' to do 'bout these folks "

"Yeah, it does have something to do with that." Iphie stared at her hands still riveted to the table. They felt the same but just applying a little pressure showed she had lost her great strength. "I'm going to do whatever I need to. I can't be allowed to die." Not normally at least, but after losing so much, after being reduced to what she was now, maybe it wouldn't be bad. Maybe now was the best time for it to happen, before it regained it's strength and it's hold.

Dusty sighed and stared up at the ceiling. "You do realize this ain't the kinda thing I just let sit an' lay around, right?" she said, peeking down at the weakened girl, "So, I'm just gonna have to help ya out."
There was no wiggle room, this time. And from the tone in her voice, it was clear that she wasn't going to hear anything to the contrary. A cult was bad news. A cult that could male someone like Iphie? That was probably worse.
The only complication was the outstanding matter of the Spider. A whole criminal network was dug into Venus City. Running off to chase cults would be a bit taxing. Dusty rubbed her chin as she weighed her options.
"So just what are these guys up to, anyway?" she brought her head back down from inspecting the ceiling, "You don't make a one-woman army such as yourself just to run errands."

Iphie looked up quickly. "I don't...well I do need your help but not with this, and I wasn't made. I'm human, normal human like you. Sort of. " She looked back down. "The strength stuff, all the weird things I can do, that's got nothing to do with them. Not really. They just kept me alive and keep it from killing me." She tried to smile at Dusty, but it didn't come out quite right. "If it wasn't for what they did, I'd have died a long time ago."
She sighed, she'd already revealed her secret to Toph so it wasn't like she was doing something new, and she did trust Dusty a lot. "They're sort of keepers of knowledge. They collect originals of every book they can find and sometimes leave copies in their place. I don't know why exactly, they don't really consider me one of their members."

"Eh, that ways mostly what I figured...I mean, I wasn't tryin' ta say ya weren't human just...Uh, well, not exactly a normal one." Dusty mentally gave herself quite the kicking. She should have clarified herself. But, her foot was already in her mouth. Cowboy boot and all.
She scratched her head, almost sheepishly as Iphie continued. "A whole cult o' bookworms? Then why all the secrecy?" Dusty tilted her head, "I dunno, I must be missin' somethin'. That, or I just been investigating way too many conspiracies. Still, you need anything you just let me know."

"I guess I just need you to keep me from taking too much medicine and I wouldn't mind some support from time to time." She wasn't sure what else to say. "I'll admit, it's been so long that I've been able to do all this crazy stuff I think it's going to be kind of hard working without it. That was some really strong stuff and I don't know if or when I'll be getting sick again. I doubt it's gone for good though, they wouldn't want their destroyer to become useless before the job is done." She laughed, it still didn't come as easily as she wanted it too. To be honest, she was scared. The diseases inside her, while constantly fighting her control, seemed normal. The sudden absence of their pull was frightening.

"Yeah, guess if that's all there is to it." she shrugged a shoulder, "You can count on me!"
Dusty grinned and gave a thumbs up. She still wasn't completely satisfied. A cult that specialized in collecting books shouldn't need someone with Iphi's type of power. It seed like a bit of overkill, especially when there were numerous mercenaries more than capable of carrying out an enforcers duty.
"Well, s'pose there ain't a whole lot left for us to do, 'cept to drink on it. If your up for it." she smirked.

"Yeah, I expect I can do that at least." Iphie smiled weakly. She took the drink she was offered and waited for Dusty to drink hers before she drank her own. She didn't normally drink, and even when she did she had the benefit of all the things living inside her to take care of most of the alcohol. Now she didn't have that, and she most definitely didn't know the limits of her tiny body when confronted with alcohol.

Iphie had barely finished her sentence before motioning Hudson to bring over a round. The dwarf obliged his tennant and her guest, bring two rather sizable mugs topped off with ale. Clinking the mugs together, Dusty soaked her sleeve in booze as it sloshes over the lip of the mug.
She took a large gulp. Being an old pro at this drinking, she knew this could be the first of many. "Ah, that always hits the spot!" Dusty grinned, "How ya likin' Hudson's brew?"
