Jennifer hadn't though that a visit to such a busy place could be so relaxing. The castle, large as it is, can be suffocating sometimes due to sheer mental stress. Jennifer never knows who might be watching, and not even out of malice but coincidence as well. So she needs some time away.
Now, Jen can just walk around, wear a plain outdoorsy dress, browse stores for things she would never think of buying, and generally forget her troubles for a while. Who needs liquor?! A good walk, in Jen's opinion, is just as good.

Lita needed to get out. Sure she had been waiting so long to get into the lab to work but whatever they used to clean the office must still be lingering because when she had woken up on her cot this morning she was feeling a tad bit ill. She got up and glanced around the lab. Everything was in order for the most part but there wasn't exactly much to get out of order. She changed from her dingy clothes into her new work outfit, the dress Yumi had left behind. It was a bit big but that wasn't a problem once she tied her belt around it and put on her coat.
What Lita really needed was air. She stepped out into the bright sunshine and went right back inside to fetch a hat. She stepped back into the sunshine, now with her sleep deprived eyes protected from the bright light. It was going to be a lovely day, though she hoped the weather would turn in time for her experiment. Lita began walking down the paths, for once actually paying attention to the people and events going on around her.

Jen can't believe what a beautiful day it is. The sun shines bright but the cool ocean breeze keeps the summer heat tamed. Crashing waves make for a soothing sound. Unsavory sailor-types approach Jen from the front and back. Yes, this is a truly wonderful day to be alive.
In a display of exceedingly good manners, the burliest of the four sailors-who-are-probably-pirates talks instead of simply grabbing right away. His breath carries a scent that only lack of citrus in the diet can provide. " 'ey now, beautiful! It's a damn shame that a lady like you has ta walk through here alone. Me an' my boys'll give ya a nice escort. Ain't that right boys?" The rest of them grin and nod, leering at Jennifer. Jen looks around her and notes where she has room to start throwing some kicks. If she had known more about this place, she might have come here in full armor with sword!
"I reckon we should give her a tour of our ship. It's one of the best on the sea! Now come along miss." The others move toward her, clearly not waiting for or particularly interested in Jennifer's consent. Jen delivers a flat-footed toe kick to the leader's midsection. The front of her shoe is hard leather akin in feel to wood, and Jennifer is no slouch in fitness. The man doubles over and Jen tries to quickly get past him. One of them stops and checks on Jen's unfortunate victim but the others go after her. "'ey, we gots a feisty one!" One of them says.
Jen does not have the advantage of surprise against these two and when they catch up to her she despairs of escape. In open war she would have their heads on her belt in three strokes but here they have height and weight on their side. Jen tries to delay them with strikes at their outreaching arms and cries for help, but she doubts that anyone would want to run afoul of such shady characters.

Lita was enjoying her little foray into the public when the familiar sounds of an abduction rang in her ears. She quickened her pace until the event was in view. She counted four idiots accosting the woman and shook her head. It was as if everything anyone ever thought about in this part of town was rape. She'd just been raped a few blocks down and now there was this. Maybe there was something in the water or the air. Or possibly in that one cheap cafe that served beef that was probably actually rat meat. It was cheap in any case. As she moved in closer, one part of her mind kept wandering. Maybe it was magic, after all, magic was a nuisance. And in control of most of it were the lousy fairies. Wood fairies in the trees, water fairies in the water, wind fairies in the air. They were everywhere and interfered with everything. She wouldn't be surprised if there was a rape fairy.
"Hey." She called to the four burly sailors. They looked at her.
"Oh look, we have another peach to be picked." One said and the two not holding onto Jenny moved forward. Lita smiled. "What's your name girly."
"I am the rape fairy, and I have come for your souls." She shouted as her hand twitched, igniting the starter and sending her entire body into flames. If this wasn't intimidating enough, she crossed her arms and then flung them outwards, dropping two of her newest invention on ether side of her. Though smaller than the palm of her hand, the fifteen foot pillars of fire that sprang from where they landed were far more impressive.
The sailors jumped back, letting go of Jenny and fleeing back to wherever ship they had come from. Lita smiled as she watched them, at least until she smelled the familiar scent of burning hair. She clapped twice and a heavy torrent of water fell from the heavens and doused her, wiping out the flames and rinsing away the embers. She shook her head and arms to get some of the water off.

There are sometimes situations that are so dire that a crazy woman throwing fire and water all over the place couldn't possibly make things worse. Jen isn't quite experienced enough to understand this though, and she just cowers against a wall hoping that this new arrival doesn't decide to light her up for kicks. Unbelievable! Jen has hardly started her walk and already she's faced risk of rape and murder!
Ugh...this is too much. Worse in some ways than the visit to Freja's torture chamber. Jen slides down to her knees. She still won't go home, no matter what happens, but maybe staying indoors from now on might be a good idea.

Lita was still quite soggy but it was far better than being crispy. She focused a bit and her hair slowly began growing back to the length she preferred it. She stepped over to the cowering girl and held out one soggy hand as an offering to help her up.
"Hello there miss, I couldn't help but notice you're rather inconveniently placed in the sidewalk. I'd like to offer you any help I can provide to get you to a place that would be far better for you than where you are sitting at this moment.

Deep breaths. Jennifer needs quite a few of these before she even understands that she is not about to die. Those sailors are gone all right, and Jen seems to be okay except for a bad scare. She regains some of her wits and realizes what might have happened if this woman hadn't stepped in. She reaches out and takes the offered hand, pulling herself up.
"I find myself in a debt that is not easily repaid, friend savior. Truly, thy offer is soothing to mine ears." Jen is still breathing heavy from her close call. She has trouble looking this person in the eyes, even though Jen owes so much to her already. "Ah, I am Jennifer Minakawa. My home is many leagues north, and I find myself a stranger here. I think...I think a place to rest a short while would be most welcome."

"Well it certainly is an experience meeting you today Ms. Minakawa. I'm Lita Triat, you may know of me, or of my work though I doubt you do if you're as new as you claim. Here, come with me, I know of a delightful place to eat, well no, not delightful. I know of a place that serves what some might describe as food." Lita began escorting her toward the small restaurant. Admittedly all it had going for it was its cheap food and the fact that it was cheap. It was only a short walk away and Lita deposited Jenni onto one of the seats at one of the cleaner tables.
"So, what brings you to this rather overcrowded city? Certainly not the company of sailors I suspect."

Lita is certainly right about Jen not knowing of her work. Jen thinks Lita must be a sorceress of considerable power, which shows how little Jen knows about magic. Or science. But she follows Lita to this 'delightful' restaurant with a good will. If the cost is indeed low Jen will be all the happier, for she has little coin. Jen's stomach rumbles when she smells what the restaurant calls food, which is a testament to how hungry she is. Now that she has time to train properly, her appetite has grown in strength.
"I sought clean air and idle walking, and the coast brings both in good measure. Had I heard tale of such villains at port, the empty road may have suited me better." Jen speaks much more calmly now that the danger has passed and she shared a table with a new-found friend. "Though I am guest at the castle, its walls are as a prison ere long. The open sky and grassy fields have ever been my true home."

"Yes, I see. You do that all the time then." Lita frowned at her and then turned toward the wall where the cook was standing quite lazily. "Hey, we'll take two of whatever isn't moving, preferably cooked." She turned back to Jenny. "My father was like you. He led the tribe. All about the beauty of nature and pleasantness of the outside world. Me personally, I prefer dark, dank rooms. A nice dimly lit workshop with a candle is all I need. Not including meals of course. And supplies." She began to rattle off a list of increasingly more mundane things including both water and air, though those were far lower on the list than they should have been.
"Anyway, I just like my peace and quiet with my creations. Unless they need to be loud."

Although Jen has not the smallest idea of science even close to the level Lita practices, she still learns that Lita is not a mage but rather an inventor. Not that Jen could really tell the difference between the two with the devices that Lita would tend to use. But the stories of Lita's father interest Jen greatly.
"Nature is not my place of mastery. Open sky is a great boon, but I seek a roof with swiftness when the rain comes. The ways of journey through untamed lands are unknown to me, and I have respect for those who endure it. Ah...Lita, forgive my curiosity. If your own room is your favored place, what would bring you to a place such as this? It would not be for the food, if the smell speaks truthfully of it."

"Yes, well, even I have to get out sometime. even if it's well preserved dead flesh is still dead flesh. As you can rightly tell by the smell of whatever abomination the cook is making back there. Fortunately he's added some spice to cover it up so it is a nice change. Besides, I had an urge to enjoy some air and sunlight and I rarely give into my urges. It's a pleasant change even if it is different then my normal setting." She turned toward the small window where the cook was cooking something over a fire. "Savages, the lot of them. Just savages and butchers, it takes a true artist to get the perfect cut. In any case our food will be along shortly. Allow me to pay for you, I'm rather well off at the moment."
