GENERAL APPEARANCE:

PERSONALITY:This royal one pretends to be blissfully naive, for the most part, and seems to be the kind of person who exists entirely untroubled by cares. She is quite cheerful and affectionate, almost to a nauseating extreme at times, and appears to let herself be distracted by baubles. While it is true that she is a hopeless romantic, she is fully aware of her position in the Von Karstein family (or lack thereof) and does seek the friendship of other royals and nobles whenever she can find those precious few that actually take her seriously to some small extent. She does do her best to be mindful of the dignity of her line, and is not a wanton creature, however much the desire for someone to sweep her off her feet might be.

BELOW THE SURFACE
SPECIAL SKILLS:Antaria is a polyglot, even more so than is required of her station. There are few languages she doesn't understand.
WEAPONS:As Antaria is not expected to command (or do much else for the family), she has received no traditional martial training.
MAGICAL ABILITIES:Antaria has, for most of her pubescent years, been left to her own devices as far as her learning goes, so she had taken up a great deal of arcane study under one of the normally exasperated family tutors. As her family didn't see fit to teach her how to defend herself with steel, she does so with spells, instead. She always brings at least a few of her numerous books of magic wherever she goes, always ready to defend herself with fire and ice should the need arise.
FAMILY:
King Manfred Von Karstein (Father)
Queen Hildegarde Von Karstein (Mother)
Otto Von Karstein (Older Brother)
Karla Von Karstein (Older Sister)
Dietlieb Von Karstein (Older Brother)
BACKGROUND: The Von Karstein family, to be plain, carried one of the greatest spirits of free enterprise ever seen on the continent. With their wealth as merchants, favors, and other hangers-on, they carved out a piece of the tribal wilderness in order to seize an ideal harbor for constructing a trading city. People flocked to the city, set up their own towns, villages, and farms, and over that usual process of centuries, a nation slowly sprang up around the Von Karsteins' capital enterprise. Eventually, the leading family took the titles of royals, even establishing a manner of merchant peerage, with their borders defended by paid, professional soldiers, and took the name of the family patriarch that laid the foundation for the founding of a new nation at the edge of the sea. It is a proud tradition, steeped in prowess of war and politics, and Antaria is heir to precisely none of it.
It was, perhaps, bad enough that she was born fourth in the family, behind two brothers and one sister, as it meant that the royal line of succession was eminently secure before she was even born, and it was no better that they all turned out to be rather upstanding, rather than indulging in traditional royal decadence, but the worst, perhaps, was that her birth left her father and mother utterly confounded as to what to do with her: The Von Karstein family has long prided itself on its long-range planning and predictions, but her parents hadn't expected to have a living fourth child (traditionally, every fourth child perishes on some tragic account or another). Her parents were no less loving for it, but plans had already been set in motion for her siblings to grow into the various roles they would obtain in adulthood. With no real prospects for arranging a marriage, or to take command of some affair of state, they left her to her own royal devices, to study and do as she pleased within the confines of noble conduct. Her siblings, however, were a little less gentle. Teasing by her brothers was certainly expected, as it is such a thing that transcends time, class and money. Her older sister, however, would boast copiously of the fact that she was able to achieve a marriage with a man of proper status and character, she would tease Antaria about her overlarge bosom, and whatever trivial imperfections she could find to properly do so. Being the younger, Antaria had to bear it.
The arrival of the invitation sent threw her parents for a bit of a loop, as their relations with the Empire had been sporadic at best, usually limited to meeting with merchants who had happened to come from there, from time to time. It did, however, provide a fortunate solution of what to do with their daughter, however. It would be uncharacteristic of her family to make such a throw of the dice, but the rewards were well worth the risk. Even if Antaria didn't secure the hand of the Imperial scion, there was, indeed, the off-chance that she might marry some other important royalty or noble, thus increasing the family's connections on the continent. It was not long after that the utterly surprised princess was packed up with a few servants, and sent off to the Imperial capital to succeed or fail on her own terms: Having only a basic knowledge of realpolitik and courtly intrigue, Antaria is going to have to rely on her own charms, knowledge, and rive in order to get what she wants out of her trip, to romance or be romanced, or even neither depending on what she does.
Besides, it's not like the rest of her family is going to be much help.
