Against her better judgement, Nerys had snuck into the castle. Why? Because Al told her to, of course. What better place to cause mischief? The witch had been failing in her recent attempts at doing good, but hopefully this would help.
The blonde leaned against a stool, hand held to her chest as she fought to catch her breath. Unfortunately, she miscalculated and placed too much weight on the wooden chair as both she and it fell to the floor. Although the chair made much more noise, clattering against the hard floor.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no..." the young witch chanted, as though it were some sort of a spell, as she hurried to stand. Her long, full skirt caught in a nail on the chair and once again she slipped, falling uncomfortably onto the ground.
Great, just great.
Laughter cut through the back of the young girl's mind and she looked up, eyes narrowing angrily in the direction of her familiar, pure white against the dark background of the ill-lit kitchen. Midnight, for aesthetic purposes, had seemed like a good time to cause chaos.
And chaos, it seemed, Nerys was getting. Although not the sort she had been hoping for. [/blockquote]

The late hours of the night were perhaps the one time of day where the kitchens of Sapphis Castle were deserted, lamps dimmed to their bare minimum for easy lighting come the next morning for the crew who would arrive to prepare breakfast. In the still darkness of the kitchen, there weren't any immediately about to pick up on the noisy collapse of the chair. However, it wasn't long after that the kitchen's door creaked open, a lamp's glow shining into the door, and cut into the center of the room as someone entered. Nerys couldn't see the figure's features well, with the light between her and the figure, but her first impressions could make out a feminine form.
The figure made several steps into the room, before pausing where she stood, lifting the lantern. Then, she stepped to the side, turning up the wick on a lantern hanging up in the corner of the room, casting brighter light through the kitchen. Now, she could make out the white dress of the figure, and Nerys could notice the lightly armored woman's features now. A short moment later, the girl kicked the kitchen's heavy door to creak shut. "Who are you?' she demanded, her tone suspicious. Even with all the recent guests in the castle, this woman didn't seem familiar at all.

Nerys' off-color eyes had adjusted to the darkness. And now that a light had suddenly entered her immediate field of vision, her eyes worked painfully to adjust again. Her hand shot up to her forehead to shield her eyes from the light, bright in her dark-adjusted vision.
As her eyes finally adjusted, she could make out the figure of a woman. An armored woman, which made a great deal of difference. Particularly because it meant that she was in a great deal of trouble.
Which, Al reminded her, was precisely what she was looking for.
As the light moved away from the other figure's face, she could make out the stranger's features slightly more. "I'm Nerys. Who are you?" Well, the mysterious figure had asked who she was. Of course, it was natural to respond with her name.
Slowly, the witch brought herself to her feet, dress and hair immaculate despite her recent brawl with the chair on the dingy kitchen floor. [/blockquote]

Sitting her own personal lamp down on one of the tables, the girl shifted her position , hand lingering comfortably near the grip of her blade as she examined the girl's features. "Step closer into the light." she requested, eyes narrowed. "I don't recall your name being among the staff or the Princess's guests." she observed.
Perhaps some of the other guards would have doubt as to the latter, but she had agonized over the list for quite some time, and this girl didn't really register as one of the invited suitors. More likely, perhaps, that she was one of the staff that Melanie hadn't yet met.. but why was she skulking in the dark. This was very suspicious, and her bright eyes' seemed to reveal that suspicion in the way they studied the girls' features in the dim light.

The witch stepped closer to the light, her differently colored eyes gleaming in the dim flame. Al fluttered softly to her shoulder, nestling comfortably against the mess of blonde hair.
"That's because I don't work here and I'm not a guest," she said, unnecessarily brushing invisible dust off her immaculate clothing.
"You're not handling this very intelligently," the bird responded with a soul-shaking snort.
Nerys replied with a small frown, crossing her arms over her chest. "You have asked me many questions, but you have answered none of mine. I find that very rude..." she said, her voice quiet and even. [/blockquote]

As she caught the different hues of eye color, the soldier bit her lip, trying to place such a unique feature, but she failed. Yes, at the least, this girl would admit that she wasn't among those who were supposed to be here. "I'm afraid you've entered the castle illegally, then." she observed. "You see, castle security is my responsibility, so I'm going to have to take you into my custody for now." She paused. "My name is Melanie. Now, could you just have a seat now, and place your wrists together behind your back?" she asked, moving closer with a long, brisk stride. "How did you even get inside?" she demanded in a gentle but firm tone.
The girl really didn't seem like she was trying to be a threat, the only thing that kept Melanie's sword in it's sheathe. She'd need to bring the girl along to report this incursion, and figure out what the security breech had been. And, to be safe, with the girl caught in the kitchens, the food should be inspected for tampering. Her mind was already whirling through the tasks she'd need to complete, even though this girl seemed quite benign.

Well, Nerys already knew that she was there illegally. That was the point, wasn't it? She was there to do something good...anything. Breaking in illegally was sort of the first step. Although, admittedly, being less subtle about it may have been more appropriate for her goals. It was too late for that now.
The witch sat down, crossing her legs at the ankles and smoothing out her long, full skirts. "You're an idiot. She's going to arrest you so that you won't be able to do anything good while you're here!" The witch hadn't thought of that possibility. She jumped up, nearly tripping over her voluminous skirts.
"I walked in," she said. "But I accidentally messed up some of the walls...those might need to be replaced...." A slight frown crossed her naturally pink lips. She did feel terrible about the walls, but they were in the way and Al insisted. [/blockquote]

Melanie frowned at the girl, flinching back a little as she jumped up. "Listen, I need you to put your arms behind your back now. I've got to arrest you. if you really didn't mean any harm, do it." she replied. "I.. I really don't want to have to force you, but it's my job. Don't make me have to."
If the girl would comply, Melanie approached closer, touching each wrist, and trapping them in a powerful magical barrier that her physical strength would be insufficient to move. Of course, that would only be should the girl cooperate. If she didn't, that left what would come open...

As the other girl neared, Nerys took a step back, slowly closing her hands. Except, almost miraculously, she seemed to have moved five feet with that single step. She shook her head. This wasn't turning out the way that she had planned. Not that she had planned anything in particular.
She had planned to enter the castle. Cause mischief. Leave uninterrupted and add one more good deed to her belt, figuratively of course. As to the nature of the mischief, she hadn't really thought that part through.
"Either way, getting arrested like that won't help at all...."
Her brows furrowed into a gentle frown. "I just want to do something good and cause some trouble..." she explained, her voice bordering on a whine. "I apologize for getting in the way of your job, but it would be really difficult to do anything good if you arrest me..." [/blockquote]

"Breaking in is never a good deed." she spoke firmly, and strode closer. "I'm really sorry, but you did something wrong. But i can tell that you are really confused. Look at me." she instructed, trying to catch the girl's attention. "You won't be hurt. But I need you to do what I say now. Alright?" she attempted to reason with the girl.

Well, breaking in was only wrong when it involved Lunarians. But this clearly wasn't a Lunarian castle, and so it wasn't wrong. It was a good thing. Nerys wondered what sort of strange moral code ruled Melanie's way of thinking.
"I'm not confused," Nerys stated calmly, her voice quiet and even. "Just acting on an ill-thought-out plan."
Which was entirely true. The young witch didn't always think things through, but she was fully aware of that fact. She may have seemed simple at first glance, but she certainly was more mature than she let on. She had once been, after all, a very important person.
A smile fell across her lips, never reaching her off-colored eyes. No, she couldn't get arrested. She needed to do something. Anything. And although she felt badly about inconveniencing someone who seemed nice enough and was simply doing her job, perhaps not getting arrested would cause some trouble.
And perhaps, she could think of something else to do in the process. She was depending on Al for that one, and the nightingale was being surprisingly quiet.
"I'm sorry for inconveniencing you, but I really do have to cause some sort of trouble...." [/blockquote]

Clearly She agreed silently. This girl was trouble. "Might I ask, why are you trying to cause trouble... and then you say you want to do good?" she moved closer. "You're really not making any sense, dear."
She closed the distance, and held a hand out to the girl. "Come on, now. I.. " she frowned. "I have to put my foot down. You seem harmless, but if you're not going to cooperate, I'll have to be direct about it."

"Lieutenant Captain, is there a problem here?" The voice was light, but there was no mistaking the firmness in tone.
Minerva had been returning from her meeting with the King and Queen. Passing by the kitchen on her way to her office, she had heard part of the exchange between Melanie and this stranger. The last thing she needed right now was yet another intruder causing trouble inside the castle. Normally, this is something she would have left in the hands of Melanie, as Captain of the Castle Guard. But, truth be told, she was really in no mood to have an unnecessarily prolonged situation here right now.
Nevertheless, she would act as Melanie's backup, in case things got difficult. It was time for the girl to prove why Minerva hand picked her for the job.
