Zdena had always been a thorough believer in the importance of a trial run. Anything that worked well in a lab could always hold some unforeseen flaw, that proper field tests might reveal. So, with her steam-carriage packed, the inventor headed for the mountains. Be it ogres, bandits or whatever travel hazards awaited, she could finally see if her improvements were actually effective.
The term Brass-Man was out dated. It was invention that was meant to do little more than show off the technical prowess of her ancestor, Kaja Kilvorion. Sure it had been the pride RRI's founder. But after so long, improvements were necessary. Things must be made practical. And these looked nothing like their earlier incarnations. They were now the Clock-Guard.
Metal soldiers, no longer constrained by a fuel source. The steam power had been effective, but keeping it freshly supplied, especially in battle scenarios was more trouble than it was worth. These Clock-Guard would still not be as effective seasoned soldiers, but they would still be effective. Or at least they SHOULD be more effective than their predecessors.
Zdena was taking further precautions. She had fashioned herself a set of armor for this trial run. It was light, but it was better than nothing. The inventor had snuck away in the middle of the night. The last thing she wanted was to have someone witness any potential failures or, even worse, participate in any confrontation that might taint the tests results. In order to measure her Clock-Guards' effectiveness, Zdena needed to observe them in action.
The steam carriage rolled to a halt. As the sun began to peek out over the mountains, Zdena fetched her test subjects. She had six, total. Each one identical in appearance. Short knights that stood roughly as tall as their creator and armed with a sword and shield. Their shields bore the logo for Rom Royal Industrial, as it was also engraved on their breastplates. All Zdena had to do now was find some trouble.
