Here it was, close to midnight, and Lita had Kizzy out running errands for her again. She had already been running errands all throughout the day, and just as she was about to lay down for blessed sleep Lita had called her again. So the tired girl made her way to Rue Coupole. At least she didn't have to go to Night's Doorstep this late.
The girl wove her way through the slightly tipsy pub-goers and slipped down a dark alley behind the tavern. She spotted a short man, barely visible in the shadows. Kizzy approached him, holding out the money as far in front of her as she could. He snatched it, and shoved a package in her arms. It squished against her unpleasantly.
Luckily, this time she had brought a bag with her, so she stowed the package away.
Rejoining the citizens of the City of Venus in the lamplight, Kizzy let her tired feet guide her; she was surprised she still knew the city so well after being away for... a while. Slowly she sank into a sort of a trance, her exhausted body moving only out of habit.
Her eyelashes fluttered against her cheek as her eyelids drooped, and she saw something move out of the corner of her eye. Too late Kizzy realized that it was another woman, and that they were on a collision course.
Unfortunately, her bag was in between the two of them, and as they collided the bag was squashed. Whatever was in the package made an awful squishing sound and oozed slime onto Kizzy and her companion.
"Oh, that's disgusting!" Kizzy cried, leaping to her feet. She looked down at the other woman, then, without ceremony, grabbed her arm and hauled her upright. "I am so sorry! My mistress had me out running errands all day and then she sent me out for one more and I kind of fell asleep on my feet and now you've got slime all over you!"
Kizzy looked up into red eyes and smiled anxiously. The woman was dressed in all red and for some reason that alarmed the 16-year-old. "If you'd like we can go to the tavern to clean up?" It was more of a question than a suggestion, and she hastily added, "Of course, I'll pay for any damages to your clothes." Lita wouldn't be happy with her about that, but right now Kizzy was more concerned with making this red woman happy.
