Zdena had nodded off again. She would have to remember to get some sleep in a proper bed, next time. But how could one sleep when there were so many projects that needed to be accomplished? There were a few ideas she wanted to pull off the back burners, her continuing research into the field of magic and she still needed to find the cure for death.
Her "work table" was littered with books and scrolls and quite a number still hovered about the inventor. Effie, while not the most comfortable pillow, still managed to do a serviceable job. And the recreations had remained active while Zdena dozed away. Not that it bothered the half-elf very much. Sometimes she would awaken from a dream and would find it had been recorded in the various tomes that Effie kept in the illusionary library. They could often provide some additional insight to a problem she might have been working. Either that, or they were too incoherent to be of any use at all.
She checked the floating books and found little of use. Although there was an intriguing equation scrawled down on one. It would have to be tested out later.
The room looked very much like her personal quarters back in Volisov City. But, Zdena knew she was quite far away from home. It was simply a convenient template for a room. Her current workspace was most convenient. It provided a lot of room to work with a variety of materials. And there were still two projects she wanted to have completed before meeting up with Princess Anactoria once more. This time she would have ironed her proposal. The inventor was sure she could provide Terre de Conte with plenty of useful products. From the new and improved Clock-Servants, to the top of the line Luggage-Walkers, RRI had plenty to offer. They just needed an appropriately grand stage for them to be displayed.
And that was being constructed in the back. The new automated servants were performing well and on schedule. At least they were when she last checked in. Which was a few hours ago. Or was it yesterday? Things could get tricky, like that.
Zdena flipped through a few pages of a book on necromancy. Zombies were all well and good, but that wasn't what the Countess was looking for. As the book blinked out of existence, her stomach growled. Food was in order. And she was reasonably sure that she still had something edible laying around. Providing it had not spoiled yet.
Breaking for meals could be increadibly annoying. Especially since she had moved out of the castle's lodgings and would need to travel out...somewhere to purchase something. On the plus side, she could finally find out if that rune she had painted (or more accurately, had one of her Clock-Servants paint) would actually work. She didn't want anyone stumbling on her (not-so) little work shop while she was out.
Grabbing her hat, she folded out the wrinkles of her work clothes as best she could and half-tried to look presentable. Stepping outside, she found the moon was up. And here, she thought it had been morning. She regarded this revelation with a "Hm." before the large structure behind her popped back into existence.
"Activate." she commanded in firm tone. Just as quickly the make-shift workspace vanished once more. The rune created the illusion that there was nothing there. Effie had been taxed running so many illusions, not to mention the impressive feat of concealing the building. The tiny orb's glow became quite faint and Zdena rubbed at her temples with a free hand. Yes, it had been most exhausting.
