"If we can bring your wife back from the dead, we can fix your house." Zdena nodded her head, "I hold no doubts. I have promised to fix your house and I will deliver on this promise."
Zdena was determined to fix the house. Unlocking it's true potential would be invaluable. To travel time and be able to control your destination. It was the kind of impossible project that captured her interest.
Her workshop, or at least the one where she created Effie was thousands of miles if sea away. But, her new shop...that was not without it's own impressive collection. The carriage carried them outside the city limits. It chugged along and soon arrived at what appeared to be an empty field.
"This is a temporary location." she explained, "One of my other projects us a gift for the princess. I hope it will help cement a prosperous business relationship."

Angelina liked the idea, traveling through time and space unhindered by her own domicile's caprices. It would make her, literally, the most influential person ever. Power, fame and fortunes, all hers. She even conveniently forgot about the paradoxes she would cause, not to mention the possibility the very fabric of the universe could be ripped to shreds. Oh well.
Approaching the field, Angelina had to rub her eyes to see if she saw things correctly. Well things looked like a very large and very empty field. She turned to look at her friend with a confused expression on her face. "So you work with nothing?"

"When working on projects of a sensitive nature, discretion is important. So, I ensure that no one will be curios enough to spot and enter my facilities." explained the inventor.
The carriage continued through the field. Effie glowed ever so slightly, but there was no visable reaction. Only after a few moments, when the carriage crossed the threshold did a change become apparent.
They were no longer out in the wilderness, but inside a large room. It was a Spartan interior with a few work tables offering various tools parts to work in. A few Clock Guard roamed about, carrying various items into and out of a small door towards the back. A far larger set of doors stood next to it and the sounds of construction echoed within. Away from the tables was a simple bed and a closet.
"Here us where I have been making my improvments. And where I am working on other projects. I suspect it will be completed soon. With this privacy, I have been able to work without interruption. The results have been most satisfactory. Now, to fetch some of the Clock Guard."
She opened the door to the carriage and stepped out, Effie in hand.

Angelina was surprised at the sudden change in scenery, it had the same disorienting effect her own room did but instead of a gradual change, it happened suddenly and without warning. It was amazing. She couldn't help but clap, an excited smile adorning her face. "How did you make this possible?" The woman asked stepping out o the cart after Zdena, looking around admiring her workshop.
"This is your bed?" Her eyes finally settled on the little bed in a corner. "That's it?" She was shocked. How could anyone only require so little to fall asleep? "You must be joking. You should get a better one, and a bigger closet. Perhaps decorate the rest of the room as well." Angelina said thinking how she could ameliorate her friend's workplace. "At least you have some help."

"It was a simple matter." she said. "It's a basic structure, but it is inscribed with a series of runes that disguise it's appearance. Not my preferred method, but it is serviceable."
Zdena inspected her progress on one of the work tables. An arm lay across the table, pulled apart and exposing gears and motors. She drew her attention back to the bed in question.
"Why?" she inquired, curiously, "It serves it's function. This a workshop, after all. There is little need for anything more than what already occupies this space."

"Ah. I thought it would perhaps be something less magical." The Countess said frowning as she sat down on the bed. "How can you keep the illusion going without any magical powers at all?" Was it perhaps the little glowing pumpkin-like thing she was clutching? It was the most logical explanation for all this.
"Why?" Angelina repeated looking shocked. "A bed does not only serve a function! It is a companion, it soothes your soul and provides you with comfort like nothing else! Which is why I have to get you a new one." She lectured. "Okay, no decorations but at least get a bigger closet... It's not nearly enough for your clothes."

"I relied heavily on Effie at first. But, once I determined how to construct basic runes, it was a much simpler affair." she said, "Applying a few basic mathematical principals and it was made all the easier. And far more efficient."
Again, there was an insitance on the asthetic. She couldn't fathom how a bugger bed made things better. Her bed suited her just fine. It was an object that she slept on.
"If I required something bigger to sleep in, I am more than capable of purchasing one." her head tilted slightly to the side, "The closet is fine. It only holds the small collection of clothing I require for my stay. I can't say I quite understand why you think I need more. This is a mere workplace. I only stay here when I am too preoccupied with my work to leave. Though I appreciate the offer, it remains unnecessary."

"Fine. No bed for you." She sighed shaking her head. "Besides, it doesn't look like you use it at all. Considering how unused it looks." The Countess noticed as she lifted her hand off the top of the sheets. "It's covered by dirt." Frowning she stared closer at the girl. "And you look like you haven't slept for a week." Sighing, she understood how much time Zdena had actually dedicated to her project. "Maybe you should get some sleep before attempting to climb this mountain." She remarked a little concerned at the state of her friend. "I waited for a century, I can wait longer. Don't kill yourself over me."
The woman pulled the covers up and fluffed the pillow on her bed. "Go on, go get a good night's sleep before doing anything else."

"I have been working on a number of projects." Zdena said, "Perhaps proper rest would be in order."
She walked over to the bed as Angelina prepared it. "I apologize for any delays. But it has been a busy period time. And it has been most exciting. Look around, as you please. I have taken to integrating projectile weaponry into the Clock Guard. It functions much like a cross bow. Feel free to go over the prototypes." Zdena sat down on the bed and removed her shoes.

"'Night." Angelina said smiling as he drew the covers over Zdena. She, then, walked away from her bed and proceeded to check up on the young inventor's multiple projects. Many were quite interesting, the Clock Guards crossbow like weapons looked ready for trial. Which is what she did, activating a prototype she was amazed at how fluid its actions seemed in comparison to her older models. It shot a bolt from across the room and after further inspection, she came upon the conclusion that it was stuck in the wall. At least it was high enough to hang a painting off of.
Hoping the noise didn't awaken the little girl, Angelina deactivated the invention and went around looking at all the notes Zdena had taken. Some of them, she noticed, would become the norm in the future. While others seemed to be rather ancient forms of future innovations, Angelina had to admire the girl. Her mind was quite a gem.

Zdena lay down and was soon asleep. She hadn't actually used the bed in a number of nights, usually falling asleep near where she had been working. Perhaps not the best strategy, but she was busy...what else was she supposed to do? She slept peacefully and was rather still. The noise wasn't a bother. She had slept through it before and she would sleep through it again. It was the only way to make sure that her main project was completed in a timely manner. The good thing about a mechanized workforce, was they didn't require such pesky things as sleep. So, she let them work around the clock, only taking the occaisional break for maintenance. It would be a little while before she finally stirred awake.

Seeing how the girl would sleep for a bit longer, Angelina decided to try to bring a little life to her workshop. After what seemed to be the thousandth blueprint she picked up she finally remembered an important fact. She hated to clean.
The woman sat down at a workbench and started to work on the inventor's many projects. Going through incomplete formulas and half finished blue prints she tried to finalize as many as she could, as a sort of gift for her friend. Well, she got rather bored after a while, finishing equations isn't all all that fun especially since many of them had been solved and documented later on, in her time.

Zdena slept for a bit longer than she would have preferred. There was just too much to do and not enough time to do it all. She finally awoke to Angelina tinkering away at one of her workbenches. Withdrawing from her bed, she walked over to the bench and peered over the Countess' shoulder.
"Interesting." she said, "I had been working on those, off and on, since I have arrived here. Too many projects in critical stages of development and just not enough time for work with theoretical. Thank you."

Angelina raised her head, turning to face Zdena. "Yes. Just contributing to future sciences." She smiled putting the current equation off to the pile that of completed work. "It's rather paradoxical. I've seen them in the future and now I'm solving them for the first time in the past." She said rather proud of herself.
"You know? I just realized that you're the one who wrote the equation I used to maintain my house. It's like meeting your hero." She said taking Zdena's hat again. "Well now that you're done napping, let's go."

Just what was it with other people and their obsession with her hat? They always wanted to pull it from her head. And Angelina was unusually adept at plucking the hat right from the top of her head. But, she appreciated the assistance. Even if it seemed to threaten to unravel the space-time continuum.
"Have I?" she went towards the pile of completed notes and equations. Old work, that had long been set aside to be completed at a later date. While they did need to get moving, she was curious about anything that had to do with that house.
"Hm......interesting." she said, "There are a few things I may need to try. But, you are right. We should get moving."
Effie glowed as the notes were transferred into the already large library.
